Street Artwork from Thailand

Acrylic on canvas painting from Shang Mai. This painting of the lotus, done in bright pink, red and gold acrylic on canvas, 12" x 12", was spotted on our first night in Shang Mai. We went to a nighttime street market crowded with local people selling their clothes, artwork and food. We came upon this one space where the family business was handled by a family member, a youngster about 13 years old. With a reasonable amount of English, this youngster told us that this was his family’s stand, his parents did the art work, and he was selling it. The artwork left us in awe. The boy was so responsible, knowing what he needed to do for his family. It was remarkable. There was no way I could leave without a purchase.

Painting of Llama from Peru

This oil painting of a llama, 16" x 34", is painted on canvas. It depicts a warm and friendly llama. Painted in shades of brown, it makes you wish that you could have a real one. There are so many talented artists in Peru. On a small side street in Cusco, while looking for world-class Peruvian chocolate, we came upon a small store. The front of the store was selling hand-embroidered change purses and pocketbooks made around Cusco. The interior and rest of the store were selling the artwork of the painter inside. When I first walked in, the artist was working on a street scene, and by the time I looked all around, much of the painting was finished. It was in this store that I saw several paintings of llamas. It's a fun picture that will light up any space.

Oil Painting of Archangel Rapheal (Health) from Peru

Faith is an important part of the Peruvian culture. Many artists depict saints, archangels and holy scenes. We brought back 2 such works of art done in oil. We stopped in a very unassuming small shop. Having gone through many stores, this one, run by a young couple, had some of the most outstanding work we saw. The husband was the artist who learned his incredible craft from his family, who have been doing this artwork for generations. He even gave us a look at the artwork that he was currently working on. The wife did the selling. Paintings came in all sizes, from very small to very large. This one of Raphael, the archangel of health (18” x 22”), is holding a fish in a colorful and fanciful outfit and comes in a colorful frame. He bestows good health on those who believe. The other is from the archangel Sandalphon. As with all of this man’s paintings, there is an incredible amount of detail and color. We’re sure you will enjoy them.
